The dye was cast the first time Mika Chall’s mother let her lick the leftovers from a pan of home-cooked chocolate pudding. Food became a consuming force in a life that has included a gig as restaurant reviewer for a southern California city newspaper, editorial consulting for a volume of vignettes and recipes focusing on the history of Tuscan food traditions, a short stint testing recipes, and an amazing amount of crash dieting. After a long-term detour as president of an educational publishing organization, Mika found her way to San Francisco and became an active member of the Bay Gourmet MLF of the Commonwealth Club, where she organized an array of programs focusing on the Bay Area’s vibrant culinary scene. Other volunteer activities have focused on fund raising for a local non-profit. Mika is also a member of the San Francisco chapter of Slow Food.
